The city of Doha, Qatar is a prime center of development in the Middle East which is inspired by the Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030). This national plan is designed to change this country into a nation that is able to thrive towards sustainability and the provision of high living standard by its people. The four pillars of this vision are human development, social development, economic development and environmental development. To address these objectives, Qatar has been spending a lot in infrastructure and mega urban construction projects that have transformed the country landscapes and made it one of the regional leaders in innovation and development.
One of the key components of this development is the emergence of smart cities as well as mega real estate development. Lusail City is an example of a complete planned city, a sustainable city aimed at integrating tens of thousands of inhabitants and tourists, with energy-efficient structure and smart technology. Another addition is the Msheireb Downtown Doha that is an urban revitalization project aimed at an environment friendly walkable inner city center. The Pearl Qatar is an artificial island with luxurious houses, and marinas and with luxury shopping serving residents and tourists. These projects are not only meant to provide modernization in the physical infrastructure of the nation but also the economical diversification of the country which is not focused on hydrocarbon business.
The growth reaches beyond land development and incorporates large investments in transportation, and infrastructural/public works. The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has initiated a five-year plan that has a budget of more than QR81 billion in developing infrastructures in new residential plots, government buildings, and drainage systems. The transportation networks in the country have also experienced massive upgrading including the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram and expansion of Hamad International Airport. The work on expanding and improving the infrastructure is aimed at meeting the demands of an increasingly strong population and a developing economy, and to provide the whole nation with an improved standard of living, as well as being able to secure a sustainable future of Qatar.
