Saudi Aramco Riyadh Refinery is a key part of Saudi Arabian downstream oil operations located at Riyadh. The production capacity of this fully-owned refinery is very instrumental towards satisfying the national need of refined petroleum products in the heartland of the Kingdom.

The Riyadh Refinery has an estimated capacity of 120,000 to 126,000 barrels per day (bbl/d) of crude oil processing ability which generates a variety of products. They are liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), naphtha, gasoline, jet fuel/kerosene, diesel, heavy fuel oil and asphalt. The refinery also has a vacuum column, a feature that makes the refinery handle heavier crude fractions because it benefits its efficiency and flexibility during operation.

Riyadh Refinery has undergone a lot of upgrade to make it more efficient in its operation. Newer projects including Hydroprocessing Integrity Project aims at upgrading old plants, erecting new reactors and exchangers in units like the hydrocracker, naphtha hydrotreater, kerosene hydrotreater and platformer units. The innovation seeks to enhance production, cut down the cost of operations and finally to provide reliable and cost effective supply of refined fuels. Advanced process control (APC) system and real-time optimizers are also applied to improve the efficiency and safety of operations at the refinery.
